Get to Know Me:

My name is Julie Grimes, I am an undergraduate student at High Point University. My major is strategic communications with a minor in social media and marketing. I choose High Point University due to the size of the campus, the friendliness of the school, and the amazing opportunities that we are given. Being from Massachusetts, North Carolina was a far way away from home. This was a problem I thought I would have to face when choosing to attend High Point University. The University and friends I made while being here showed me otherwise.

 

When describing myself a few words that come to mind are, kind, loyal, creative, adventurous, athletic, and competitive. Although this list of adjectives is just a small description of who I am, I truly believe they help grasp a definition of myself. I put athletic on that list because ever since 3^rd grade I played multiple sports every season until senior year of high school. Volleyball, indoor and outdoor track, and basketball have contributed immensely towards my life. I also played soccer, lacrosse, and cross country for a short bit. Playing sports my whole life, I was constantly on the road going from one practice to another, so I didn’t have as much time as other kids my age did to hang with friends, relax, or pick-up additional hobbies. That is why I decided to not continue my athletics in college. Sports have taught me many life skills such like time management, dedication, sportsmanship, and leadership. Being the captain of varsity sports, I really had to step up and do my job when it came to those life skills. I am very grateful I got to learn these skills while doing what I love and that they will stick with me throughout my whole life. 

 

Family is a very important aspect of my life. My mom, dad, and sister and I are very close. Our extended family all live quiet far from each other, but we frequently stay in touch. Anyone who knows my family knows that we are a “game family.” What I mean by that is that we are always playing games, from board games, sports, card games, to riddles, any game you can think of, we play it. Besides games other hobbies I enjoy doing is cooking and sewing. I recently picked up sewing when I would purchase clothes online and have to hem, take in, or wanted to add something to them but didn’t want to continuingly pay for the tailor to do them.
